The Gulf of Orosei is a true underwater paradise, where majestic limestone seabeds and rich marine biodiversity come together to offer one of the most thrilling diving and snorkeling experiences in the Mediterranean.
From the vertical cliffs of Cala Goloritzé to the sandy bottoms of Cala Luna, every stretch of coast reveals submerged caves, canyons, crevices and Posidonia meadows.
Snorkeling Experience
Snorkeling is highly recommended for beginners who are just starting to explore underwater life in the Gulf of Orosei. It’s ideal along almost the entire coastline, thanks to the crystal-clear waters of the most famous coves and excellent visibility (often over 20 meters).
Snorkeling is perfect for both families and beginners, especially in the more sheltered areas like Cala Fuili and Cartoe, with shallow, sandy seabeds. At Cala Mariolu, you’ll find a mixed seabed with rocks, sand and colorful fish. Visibility here is excellent. Cala Biriola welcomes you with turquoise waters, natural shade and rocky walls full of marine life.
Diving Experience
Diving in the Gulf is suitable for all levels, with dive centers in Cala Gonone and Orosei offering guided dives in marine caves, vertical walls and sunken wrecks, as well as PADI courses, gear rental and underwater photography. A true gem in the area is the opportunity for night dives.
Recommended dive sites
Grotta del Fico: also accessible by dinghy, among the most spectacular submerged tunnels in the Gulf. Biriola Wall: vertical diving with gorgonians, moray eels and lobsters. KT12 Wreck: a German WWII cargo ship, resting at a depth of about 30 m. Submerged tunnels: near Cala Luna and Cala Sisine.
Best time to go
From May to October, with peak visibility in June and September. The sea is calmest in the morning and on days without mistral wind.
For diving, always rely on authorized centers and check sea and weather conditions in advance. Some areas are protected or have restricted access: avoid unauthorized anchoring or diving in prohibited zones.
