You are truly left breathless once you arrive at Gorropu, inside this magnificent natural giant, a masterpiece that has taken shape over thousands of years thanks to winds, rain, erosion and geological events, presenting itself to you in its extraordinary and unrepeatable form.
This is how Gorropu Canyon has become the deepest canyon in Italy (500 metres). Its depth and natural beauty make it one of the most desirable places to visit.
There are several ways and routes to reach Gorropu Canyon. Among them are trails B-502, B-505 and B-485. Each route has different elevation changes and takes approximately from two to three hours each way. All of them allow us to appreciate the landscapes of the Oddoene Valley and the Supramonte, discovering the woodland plants and beautiful Sardinian landscapes.
This route has been classified as trekking for experienced hikers (EE) because of the presence of several challenging sections, particularly on the return journey, which have to be tackled uphill.
That's why the assistance of an experienced tour guide is often requested, not because the paths are difficult to find or because of the fear of getting lost in the Sardinian forest, but just even to make your reaching the canyon easier with a specially equipped vehicle that will take you almost to the canyon itself.
The excursion to Gorropu is 100% personalised. If you are staying in Cala Gonone, Dorgali or the surrounding area, you simply need to indicate the hotel or holiday home where you are staying and the guide's off-road vehicle will collect you at the agreed time. You do not need much, but water (no less than one and a half litres) and suitable hiking boots that provide firm ankle support are essential, especially on the descent and inside Gorropu Canyon. If you are thinking of bringing trekking poles, choose telescopic ones, as they will help you on the descent and ascent to and from the off-road vehicle. Other types, with a fixed length, can be uncomfortable inside the canyon.
“Do I need to bring food with me?”
There is no need, because a picnic is planned in a designated area with a beautiful view over Gorropu Canyon. You will taste local bread, cured meats and cheeses, accompanied by a few glasses of Sardinian wine. All this is intended to help you relax and consolidate the wonderful moments you have spent together.
