The name Cala Liberotto does not come from tourism, nor from a modern invention. It is rooted in the sea and in history.
In the past, this beach was known as Cala Liparota, a name that most likely referred to the presence of sailors and fishermen from Lipari, in the Aeolian Islands. Between the 18th and 19th centuries, these stretches of coast were frequented by crews who used natural coves as landing points and temporary shelters during fishing activities.
Over time, due to imprecise cartographic and administrative transcriptions, the name Liparota gradually evolved into the present-day Liberotto. A linguistic transformation that left the deeper meaning untouched: a cove shaped by the sea, by landings and by ancient Mediterranean routes.
Cala Liberotto is the right choice for those seeking a perfect balance between nature and comfort. The beach stretches wide with golden sand, framed by crystal-clear waters and pale rocks that invite you to swim, explore and relax under the Mediterranean sun.
It’s not just a place to pass through.
It’s a place where the landscape gently encourages you to slow down.
Reaching Cala Liberotto is surprisingly easy. From Orosei, follow State Road SS125 and clear signs will guide you to the beach, about 12–14 km from the town center.
For those who prefer public transportation, extra-urban bus connections are available from Orosei and Nuoro, with stops within walking distance of the beach. Service is more frequent during the summer months.
Once you arrive, there’s no need to worry about long walks or complicated logistics.
Cala Liberotto offers both free and paid parking areas just a short distance from the beach, often shaded by the pine forest and well signposted-first come, best placed.
Along the shoreline you’ll also find useful services such as showers, waste disposal areas, restrooms and launch corridors for small boats. During peak season, lifeguards are usually present to ensure safety in the water.
Cala Liberotto is a small world of hospitality and relaxation. The area offers hotels, residences, B&Bs and holiday homes suitable for families, couples and independent travelers. Many accommodations feature pools, panoramic terraces and easy access to the sea.
Examples include Hotel Quasar overlooking the gulf, Villa Dessena Guest House surrounded by greenery and other properties with gardens and pools for those seeking a complete break from everyday life.
At Cala Liberotto, the day often begins in the water. You can snorkel among small coves and low rocks, explore the transparent seabed and watch fish moving effortlessly below the surface. If you enjoy open water, SUP and kayaking are excellent ways to discover the coastline.
Behind the beach, the pine forest invites shaded walks, spontaneous picnics or quiet moments of pure relaxation.
And if you want to explore further, nearby beaches and trails such as Petrosa, Osalla or Marina di Orosei add variety and new scenery to your itinerary.
