Sa Taschedda was created for a specific purpose: to accompany Sardinian shepherds during days spent away from home, carrying bread, cheese and wine. This shows that it was an essential item closely connected to everyday life.
The experience lasts around 45–60 minutes. After an introduction to the history of the Sardinian backpack, you observe the cutting of the leather that will form the different components, carefully prepared before assembly.
One of the most distinctive steps is the making of Sa Redina, the traditional braid composed of four leather laces. Through the braiding process, you will see the laces taking shape and revealing the importance of precision in artisanal work.
The process then continues with the hand-stitching of the edges and the characteristic half-moon detail, followed by the final assembly of all the parts. Little by little, the separate components become a complete backpack, made largely with your own hands, according to your manual skill.
The visit naturally ends inside the artisan workshop. Barbara Basolu’s shop displays many of her handmade products, including backpacks, bags, belts, wallets, leather souvenirs and traditional taschedde. Each piece reflects the same care for manual craftsmanship and for a tradition that continues to find new forms of use.
At the end of the visit, you may choose to purchase one of the items available, including the backpack made during the experience.
